There are different ways you can set what your rental products will charge on an order.

Keep reading the guide below to learn how to set up the best way of charging for your rental products in Booqable.

How it works

When you charge for products on orders, it's important to know that the rental period (the duration of an order) and the charge period (the time that's charged) are independent of each other.

For example, you can reserve an item for three days but charge for only one.

1. Automatically calculated charges

When you add a product to an order, by default, the charge is calculated based on the order duration. Use the charge dropdown to set a custom charge duration. The available options depend on the product's pricing method.

2. Manual charges

You can also set a manual price and charge label, that's not based on the order duration and a product's pricing method.

To set up a manual charge, click the Pencil icon behind the charge dropdown, fill in your desired label and price, and click the Save icon when you're done.

3. Recalculating prices

If you change the rental duration after adding items to the order, Booqable prompts you if you want to recalculate prices based on the newly selected period.

Clicking "Yes please" updates all charge durations in accordance to the newly set order period, where "No, thank you" leaves them as you set them.

Pro tip: Here's a way to quickly apply a charge that's different than the order duration for all products on an order:

  1. Set the rental period to the duration you want to charge.

  2. When prompted to recalculate prices click "Yes please".

  3. Change the rental period to the period you want to reserve the products.

  4. When prompted to recalculate prices click "No, thank you".

Now, you charge for a different duration than the order duration for all products on the order.

4. Troubleshooting

Q: I changed the pricing of a product, but the change is not reflected on my order.

A: Booqable does not update prices for products that are already on orders (otherwise, price changes would also apply to orders in the past).

Use the Calculate for order period button in the charge dropdown to recalculate prices for the product.

You're all set!

You have now successfully learned how to charge for products on an order in Booqable.
