In this article, we'll go over:

Categories and subcategories

Categories are the primary way to group products with similar features. If needed, you can add subcategories as well.

For example, if you rent out camera equipment, you could set up categories like "Photo cameras", "Video cameras", and "Accessories".

Note: Categories and subcategories only apply to your online store at this point.

To add/edit categories:

  1. In your Booqable admin, go to Settings > Online reservations.

  2. Scroll to the Categories section and click "New category".

  3. Give your category a Name.

  4. Click Save.

To add/edit subcategories:

First, you need to save a category before you can create a subcategory for it. Then:

  1. In your Booqable admin, go to Settings > Online reservations.

  2. From the Categories section, choose an existing category.

  3. Click New subcategory.

  4. Give your subcategory a Name.

  5. Click Save.

Note: Make sure to enable Show in online store to display a (sub)category in your online store's category list.

Adding products to (sub)categories

You can add products to categories and subcategories from two places: from a product page or a (sub) category's settings page.

From a product page:

  1. In your Booqable admin, go to Products and choose a product.

  2. In the right sidebar, search for the desired (sub)category.

From settings:

  1. In your Booqable admin, go to Settings > Online reservations.

  2. In the Categories section, click an existing (sub)category.

  3. In the products section, search for the products you want to add.

Tags are another way to relate your products to each other. Unlike categories, tags have no hierarchy (meaning there are no "subtags").

You can use tags to label products, orders, customers, and documents. After you add tags, you can use them for searching and filtering to help you stay organized while working in Booqable.

Tip: Use tags to group related items: orders which are ready to be picked up, customers who frequently rent from you, or products from a particular manufacturer.

To add tags:

  1. In your Booqable admin, view an order, document, customer, or product.

  2. In the right sidebar, from the tags section, click the Plus icon.

  3. Type to search existing tags or to create a new one.

Using categories and tags on your website

Categories and tags are great ways to structure your online store and guide your customers to the products they are looking for.

Your Booqable-hosted store shows categories by default. When you add Booqable to your existing website, you can embed a category list, or lists of products using specific categories, tags, or a combination of both.

  • To show a product list with products from one or more categories:

    HTML snippet:
    <div class="booqable-product-list" data-categories="photo cameras, video cameras"></div>

    WordPress shortcode:
    [booqable_list categories="photo cameras, video cameras"]

  • To show a category list that filters product lists on the same page:

    HTML snippet:
    <div class="booqable-category-list"></div>

    WordPress shortcode:

Customers can't see tags, but your online store search uses tags to make it easier for customers to find what they are looking for. When adding Booqable to your website, you can embed a product list that only shows products with specific tags.

  • To show a product list with products with one or more tags:

    HTML snippet:
    <div class="booqable-product-list" data-tags="canon, nikon"></div>

    WordPress shortcode:
    [booqable_list tags="canon, nikon"]

Combining categories and tags

You can combine categories and tags as well. To show all Canon photo cameras for example:

HTML snippet:
<div class="booqable-product-list" data-categories="photo cameras" data-tags="canon"></div>

WordPress shortcode:
[booqable_list categories="photo cameras" tags="canon, nikon"]
