How to create and manage advanced coupon codes

Learn how to use advanced coupon code features.

Coupon codes are a useful tool for promoting your business. Use them for marketing campaigns, giving discounts to loyal customers, apply discounts to specific products or during specific periods such as holidays, for example.

The advanced coupon code settings allow you more options for setting up coupon code validity. Choose to apply discounts to specific products or collections, set up a period for when the coupon is valid, limit uses, or set a minimum order value for the coupon to be applicable.

💡Note: Advanced coupon code features are available in the Grow and Scale plans.

How it works

1. Enable coupon codes

The first step is to make sure that you have enabled coupon codes for your online store if you would like for customers to be able to redeem the codes for a discount.

If you only plan to use these internally, skip this step.

  1. Go to Online store > Preferences > Coupon codes.

  2. Check the box to Enable coupons.

  3. Make sure to save this change.

💡 Note: Coupon codes are available in the Grow plan and above.

2. Create a coupon code

To create a new coupon code:

  1. Go to Coupons.

  2. Click on the Add coupons button in the top right corner.

  3. Enter a name for the coupon code.

  4. Choose if it will be active right away or toggle the slider off so that this coupon cannot be redeemed yet. You can toggle this on or off later when you're ready to make it active or deactivate it.

  5. For the discount type, choose whether the discount will be a percentage or fixed value:
The Percentage will discount a percent off the applicable products in a booking.
The Fixed value allows you to enter an amount that will be deducted as long as an applicable product is added to the booking.

  6. If you want the coupon to only be valid for specific days, check the Specific dates option and enter a start and end date.

Note: The coupon will only apply if the full order period falls within the selected dates.

  7. Select Eligible items either by choosing Specific products, Specific collections or select All products so that the coupon will be applicable to all products in your inventory.

  8. Check the Minimum spend option to set a minimum order amount for the coupon to be applicable.

  9. Set up Redemption limits:
Maximum redemptions is based on how many times the coupon code is used across all orders.
Limit to one redemption per customer can only be used if customer accounts are enabled. The coupon code can only be applied if the customer signs into their account so that the one per customer limit can be enforced.

  10. Finally, choose whether to stack coupon discounts with customer discounts.
Check the Stack with customer discount box to allow both the coupon and customer discount to apply to the same order.
If this box is unchecked, the customer discount will take priority over coupon codes.

  11. Once you've finished making all your changes, make sure to click Save to add the new coupon code!

3. Deactivate or delete coupon codes

Deactivate

If you no longer want to offer a coupon code or want to temporarily disable it so it can be re-enabled later, you can deactivate it by following these steps:

  1. Go to Coupons

  2. Click on the coupon code and toggle the Active filter off to make it Inactive:

  3. Click Save to apply the change.

Delete

If you would like to make changes to the settings of a coupon code, you will need to delete the existing one because the settings of a coupon code cannot be modified once they are saved.

💡 Note: Once a coupon code is deleted, it cannot be reactivated and you will need to re-add it instead. Existing orders that already use this code will keep the applied discount and historical report data will remain.

To delete a coupon code:

  1. Go to Coupons

  2. Click the coupon code you want to delete

  3. Scroll to the bottom and click the Delete coupon button.

💡Note: Once a coupon code is deleted, you can create a new coupon with the same code, but keep in mind that this will be reflected in reports. Using the same code may make it hard to interpret so it is recommended to use unique codes like summer26 instead of summer for example, to reflect different campaigns.

4. Add tags to coupon codes

Tags are useful to group codes so you can more easily find them in the Coupons section or to filter the Coupon reports.

  1. Go to the settings of the coupon code you wish to add tags to.

  2. Click the Add tags button in the right side to apply an existing tag or create a new one and add it.

5. Redeem coupons in your online store

Coupon codes can be redeemed by your customers in the online store by applying it in the cart or at checkout.

In the cart, there is a Coupon code box where they can input the code and click Apply.

At checkout, they can click the Coupon code button and a popup will appear where they can enter and apply the code.

6. Apply coupons to manual orders

Coupons can be applied to manual orders.

  1. When in an order's screen, click Add a coupon.

  2. A popup will appear where you can select a coupon from the dropdown or type it to search for it.

  3. Click Apply once you've selected the correct coupon.
