Address validation helps ensure the addresses entered by customers or added to customer profiles in Booqable are valid. It prevents incorrect data from being saved for customers and used for orders or deliveries.

Note: Existing Booqable users can opt-in for address validation. Once enabled, address validation can’t be turned off, and all newly added and existing addresses will be validated.

What happens if an existing address is not valid?

If an existing address is invalid, the address field will display a notification on all pages where the address is present. The notification will disappear after you’ve updated the field with a valid address.

Address notifications can appear on the following pages:

  • Customer address on an order

  • Customer detail page

  • Company settings in general settings

  • Addresses of multiple locations

  • Billing information in settings

  • Custom address fields

What if my customers enter an invalid address during checkout?

If your customers enter an invalid address during checkout, an error will appear, prompting the users to enter a valid address:

What if I accidentally use a custom address field to store data other than an address?

If you’ve accidentally created a custom field (type: address) to store data other than addresses, you will see a notification in Settings > Custom fields.

We recommend creating a new custom field and selecting the appropriate data type for the content you want to save.

Custom fields for addresses

If you prefer to collect customer addresses without enabling address validation, you can use custom fields to store address details without validating them. Here are two common approaches:

  1. Single text field for full address:

    • Label: Address

  2. Separate fields for address components:

    • Label: Address line 1

    • Label: City

    • Label: Zipcode/Postcode

To create a field for storing addresses without validation:

  1. Go to Custom Fields and choose where the field should be stored: Customers or Orders.

  2. Add a label to the custom field and set the data type to either: Single line or Multi-line text.

  3. Once created, navigate to your Checkout form Settings and click Add item.

  4. Select the field type.

  5. Add the previously created custom field in the Linked custom field section.

  6. Assign a label to the custom field and add it to your checkout form by clicking Save.

This allows you to collect address data without using the validation address field, but keep in mind that upcoming features like deliveries and mileage calculations will require addresses to be validated.
